6 Steps to the Perfect Brow

According to Seventeen magazine, the latest trend in beauty confirms that the bigger the brow, the better. Thicker/fuller eyebrows are back, and thin brows are out.  Eyebrows may have never been this important in the beauty world, so many people are going for a thicker/fuller look, because it seems to shape and slim down the face.

To achieve the perfect brow, try these 6 steps (with a little help from sophomore student Hailee Kidd).

Step 1: Brush it up

Combing the brows upward will indicate which hairs are falling outside the target shape of the brow, and where they need to be filled in.

Starting from the front, work towards the tail of the brow.

Step 2: Trim and tweeze

Applying this step will start the shape of your brow. First, by taking a small pair of scissors, trim the hairs outside the shape of your eyebrows until you create a neat line at the top of the brow. Next, by using a slanted pair of tweezers, pluck any hairs that have fallen below the shape of your brows. Last, trim and tweeze any hairs that seems to be out of place around your eyebrows.

Step 3: Throw some shade

This is the most important step because it’s going to create a fuller effect by filling in the gaps and sparse areas of your brow. Using either an eyebrow powder, gel, or pencil will work– just make sure it matches your natural color.

4

First, start filling in gaps or sparse areas by using a light hand to help mimic your natural hairs. Using softer strokes creates a natural and less intense look. Next, use an angled brush or a similar color press powder to define the shape of your brows even more. The goal is to have the most natural brows by not over drawing or filling in the inside corners and tail of the brow. Be careful you don’t fill it in too harshly.

Step 4

Brush through brow hair again with a spoolie brush,  which is an eyebrow-shaping brush that looks similar to a mascara wand. Then, use the brush to blend out the product and soften any harsh lines.

Step 5: Set

You should always set your eyebrows with a brow gel that is either clear or tinted. This will help confirm that your brows stay in place all day.

Step 6: Highlight

Outline the shape of your eyebrow with a white eyeliner pencil or a concealer. This will create a contrast that makes your eyebrows stand out.  Also, it will give an illusion of a mini “eye lift.”

Tip: If you have lighter hair, you should always make your brows one shade darker. If you have dark hair you should go one shade lighter in order to ensure your brows don’t overpower the frame of your face.
