FCHS Receives Silver Medal

Source: Newhopefreepress.comRecently, US News and World Report released their 2016 Best High Schools rankings. In a review of 28,561 public schools across the country, the magazine recognized 113 Virginia schools for excellence, including Fluvanna. FCHS was one of 36 schools in the state to earn a Silver Medal. This is the third time FCHS has received this award, having been awarded silver medals in 2012 and 2013 as well. In addition, US News and World Report ranked FCHS ranked 50th among state schools in Virginia .

FCHS Principal James Barlow was proud of the school’s recent achievement. “In the summer of 2015, the Fluvanna County School Board and our Superintendent, Gena Keller, challenged all of us to dare to imagine engaged, inspired learning every day,” he said FCHS. “This award reaffirms our district’s path to excellence,” said Brenda Gilliam, Director of Curriculum and Instruction.

The national rankings for each school were decided based on how students performed on state assessments. US News also analyzed how schools educated students who are considered to be least advantaged. Schools that were able to pass this test were able to be considered for national rankings.
