As the school year nears its end, many FCHS students have prom to look forward to before they go off to summer break. This year is no different as this year’s prom is set to be held on April 30.

Setting up prom is no easy task, and a lot needs to be done beforehand, most of it by the Junior Class Officers– Craig Russo, Lindsay Price, Colby Deforge, and Maddie Garrett, as well as a variety of volunteers on the Junior Class Prom Committee. The students are doing the hard work under the direction of Committee Advisers Erika Whitten and Sabrey Garling. “I like planning events and also planned for prom when I was in high school, [so] it seemed like a perfect fit,” said Garling, who is also the FCHS College Advisor.

This year’s prom theme will be “The Great Gatsby.” Choosing this as the prom theme was a matter of some debate during a vote at lunches. It was a close vote between “The Great Gatsby” and “Under the Sea,” with “The Great Gatsby” winning by a small margin.

Many students are eagerly awaiting this year’s prom. “I hope the music this year is good. Modern music would be nice,” said senior Kate Struz. Stutz mentioned that she is also looking forward to the senior walk and making memories with her friends. Other seniors, like Joanna Sapp, are looking forward to dressing up and taking pictures.

According to Russo and Price, the decorations for this year’s prom will be going for a vintage design. Prom attendees will be sure to enjoy a chocolate fountain, along with plenty of finger foods. Seniors Autumn Shepherd and Tamara Lewis will be in charge of the music, while Von Hill is expected to play the role of disc jockey. Shepherd and Lewis are taking recommendations from students at the ticket sales table during lunches prior to the event. Russo said he’d like to see “The Cha Cha Slide” by DJ Casper. “I enjoy making a fool of myself,” said Russo.

Tickets already being sold during lunches for $20 per person for seniors and $25 per person for juniors. Ticket sales end April 22.
