If you want to think ahead in your life, the best way to do that is to take one of the many CTE classes are offered at Fluvanna County High School.  These classes are taught by Russell Jennings, Gary Greenwood, Christine Kreitzman, Linda Harding, Dr. Delores Carr, and Katy Wilkerson.

Introduction to Plant Sciences, Horticulture Science, and Greenhouse Production is taught by Russell Jennings.  These classes teach horticulture, greenhouse management, welding, metalworking, and how to work on small engines.  Students can also join the Fluvanna Future Farmers of America (FFA).  FFA helps students with personal growth, leadership, career success, and better serving the community.  FFA members work hard in and out of the classroom.  Not only is FFA for students interested in agriculture, but it is also beneficial to those who want to be teachers, scientists, doctors, business owners, and more.

Gary Greenwood is the teacher of Economics and Personal Finance, where all students participate in a free stock market game that helps teach students about investing without the fear of losing money.  This game is at http://www.marketwatch.com/game/stock-fears/.  Greenwood encourages everyone to create an account where everything can be made up (except for the email address) to remain anonymous and play this game.  More information can be found on his website at http://www.whathuhinvesting.com/financial-fitness.html.

Christine Kreitzman teaches Economics and Personal Finance, Keyboarding, Multimedia, and Advanced Multimedia, and Linda Harding teaches Business and Information Technology.  Many CTE students are working towards their Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification.  This shows employers that the students have Microsoft experience.  By passing one of the exams, the student is considered MOS certified in that area.  The certifications include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook 2013.  There are three paths that students can take to be a MOS Master, which is the highest certification available.  To become a “Master,” students have to become an Expert in Word and/or Excel and complete four other programs.

Culinary Arts is taught by Dr. Delores Carr.  In this class, Dr. Carr opens students’ eyes to the culinary world.  The students are pushed to pursue their goals as they are taught new things about being a chef.

Katy Wilkerson teaches Cosmetology and Barbering.  In this class, the more experienced students offer services to the public every Tuesday during school hours and after school on one Tuesday each month.  Tuesdays are called “Transformation Tuesday.”  In April and May, Cosmetology and Barbering II students can take the Virginia State Board Examination to become licensed professionals.

Many FCHS students take CTE classes, and they will continue to enjoy them for years to come, along with other students that start to join these classes as they get older.
