“I’m very proud,” Coach Feda Morton said about both swim teams. “[The students] are very talented swimmers and divers.” The swim team takes a break this week, with the dive team traveling to Harrisonburg for a match on Jan. 15.

On Jan. 8, the Fluvanna County Track team had a meet at FUMA where they engaged in a day-long meet consisting of over 30 events. As a qualifying meet, there was no true winner among the schools, but four Fluvanna students did qualify for States. In the girls’ Triple Jump, students Madison Brown and Kylie Haseltine placed 4th and 12th, respectively. Fluvanna placed first in the girls’ 4×800 relay with a team consisting of Kristen Cabrera, Jackie Rodriguez, Saige Haney, and Libbey Hartung. Fluvanna placed fourth in the same event for the boys, with a team consisting of Andy Guess, Jack Rice, Keegan Campanelli, and Andrew Riddler. For the girls’ 1000 meter run, Kristen Cabrera pushed hard and won the event with a time of 3:13.34.

“It was a good meet,” Coach Tom Casto said, “and I’m proud of everyone who participated.” The track team traveled to Woodbury Forest on Jan. 12 for a meet, then to FUMA on Jan. 16 for yet another meet.

Wrestling

The Fluco wrestling team had a match at Albemarle High School on Jan. 9.  The Flucos did well for the most part, ending with a record of 3-2 with quality wins over Charlottesville, Bandit, and Spotswood High Schools.  They ended up placing 5th out of 8 teams at the match.  “Although we won some matches, I thought we could have worked a little better as a team at the match, but it was a great learning experience,” said Captain Ian Dillon ’17.

Wrestlers with standout performances included sophomore Esa Mayo-Pitts, freshman Joseph Pace, and junior Jimmy Dillahunt, all finishing 5-0.  Others that did well were Captain Ian Dillon ’17 who finished 4-1, and senior Caleb Staff who went 3-2.  “I think we are doing really well.  We continue to improve every match, which is satisfying for a coach,” said Head Coach Jordan Divine.  They are looking to bounce back and win even more their next match.  They will be off until Jan. 16 where they will have their District tournament match at Louisa County High School.
