For many, the arrival of spring means they can once again start planting after a long and cold winter. Luckily for those garden lovers, FCHS agriculture teacher Russell Jennings and his class are having their third annual greenhouse sale at FCHS. Proceeds for this sale go towards Future Farmers of America and the FCHS greenhouse.

Preparation for this event starts long before spring rolls around. Jenning’s tomato plants are planted in December before Christmas break, with everything else being planted between January and February. Some of the plants being sold this year include marigolds, geraniums, spider plants, and baby duck petunias. You can even buy fruits or vegetables including eggplant, peppers, strawberries, and over 15 varieties of tomatoes.

Jennings said their best-selling plants are the vegetables and the baby duck petunias. “It takes about two months to sell everything,” said Jennings. Prices for plants vary, with the most expensive plants being the hanging baskets priced at $10 each, and the cheapest being a pack of six annuals for as little as $1-$2.

While the sale normally begins at the end of April, this year’s warm weather enabled them to start the the sale on April 8. The plant sale runs Mondays through Wednesdays from 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, Thursdays from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm, and Fridays from 8:00 am-5:00 pm. Plants will also be sold Saturday, April 30 and May 7, from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm. For more information, contact Jennings at [email protected].
