Girls’ Basketball

It’s been the girls’ season to shine as their goal of reaching States has inched closer and closer. On Feb. 10, they took on Powhatan in the first round of the District tournament. With a final score of 33-29, the Flucos advanced on to the second round of the tournament.

The Flucos hosted the second round of the Conference tournament on Feb. 18, taking on Harrisonburg. While Harrisonburg led Fluvanna with a score of 18-13 in the first half, the Flucos fought back hard enough to secure a final score of 41-30 and a right to compete at the Conference semi-finals. Next, the Flucos faced number one seed Amherst in the semis, gathering an impressive score of 48-44. The following day they took on Charlottesville where the Knights led the Flucos 14-2 at the end of the first half. Pulling together, the Flucos came out strong in the second half with Kiana Childress hitting a three-pointer. Although the Knights ultimately beat the Flucos 28-10, the Flucos still advanced on to Regionals as the second place team. They played William Fleming at on Feb. 24.
