Homecoming Week at FCHS

The 2014 Homecoming Week was just as interesting as any other, maybe even more.  It all started with Spirit Week.

FCHS students went all out for Spirit Week this year.  Everywhere you looked, you would see someone dressed up.  The seniors were the most enthusiastic, and they ended up getting the most Spirit Points for Spirit Week.  One Senior, Juan Salazar, even brought a skateboard covered in green streamers to school to be his flying carpet for his Aladdin costume on Walt Disney Wednesday.

At 3:15 on Friday afternoon, FCHS students were let out of their 6th Period classes for a Pep Rally.  Each grade had a section of the bleachers to sit, but only a few people actually sat down.  First, the school’s Emperor and Empress were announced.  The Emperor was History teacher Matt Morrison, and the Empress was Foreign Language teacher Jocelyn Stevens.  After that, the cheerleaders performed routines that they had practiced.  When the cheerleaders had finished, students were called down from every grade for a four-way game of Tug of War, which the sophomores handily won.  Then, every grade got a song to sing, and the grade who sang the loudest won.  Again, the sophomores were victorious, winning most School Spirit in the Pep Rally.  Last, but not least, came the Fluco Rumble.  The Fluco Rumble is a tradition where the whole school goes to the middle of the gymnasium and starts jumping.  Finally, the students went to their buses to go home.

Later Friday evening, many FCHS students came back to watch the Float Parade.  Students from every grade between 9th and 12th had been working hard on floats all week, getting them ready for the parade.  After the parade and judging, it was announced that the World Language Club won for Best Float, which included an Eiffel Tower made out of recycled material.

Once the Float Parade was over, more students started arriving for the Homecoming Football Game.  The Flucos were playing against Powhatan, and they were off to a great start.  But when the game was over, the score was 36 to 4; the Flucos had lost.

Saturday night was the night that all Flucos had waited for:  Homecoming.  This year, the theme was Narnia.  At 8:00pm, students started arriving.  When you first walked in, you went through layers of clothes and into “Narnia.”  Streamers were hung from the walls and a fog machine made the room look like you were actually in Narnia.  Unfortunately, the fog machine set off the fire alarms and the building had to be evacuated.  No one could go inside again for at least 15 minutes.  After that, the fog machine could not be turned on again, but Homecoming was just as fun without it.  When the Homecoming King and Queen were announced, the results were Vinny Agee for King and LeeLee Robbins for Queen.

Overall, Homecoming Week was a blast.  FCHS students dressed up in diverse costumes, got all of their energy out at the Pep Rally, cheered their team on at the football game, and got evacuated from a school dance all in one crazy but exciting week.
