Diving Into Success

“Brilliant” and “brawny” are two attributes that FCHS senior Bryce Campanelli  has used to help guarantee his success after high school.  Campanelli, who recently signed to Ivy League college Brown University, started diving in his freshman year and has excelled in it ever since.  He has played an important role in bringing victory to the team, which is only in its sixth year.  Campanelli has been the Jefferson District Champion and Regionals Champion for three years running, including placing 3rd in States two years ago and 2nd last year.

Campanelli quickly realized he wanted to continue diving in college.  His sophomore year he started thinking about what he was looking for in a college.  “I wanted to go somewhere with high academics,” said Campanelli.

A Division 1 school in diving, Brown University is one of the most prestigious schools in the United States.  According to Brown’s website, it is “recognized for the quality of its teaching, research, and unique curriculum.”  Located in Rhode Island, it’s a medium-sized school with 6,000 students.  Due to Brown’s exceptional academics and dive team, Bryce decided to email the dive team coach.

“I emailed him in my sophomore year telling him I was interested.  He quickly got back to me, and was interested in me as well,” said Campanelli.

Campanelli was ecstatic when he committed to Brown in mid-2013, which led to signing to Brown’s diving team on Feb. 5.

He said he loves the atmosphere, the coach, and the beautiful campus.  “Brown is a place where I’d be surrounded by some of the brightest minds, but also some of the best athletes. It was just a place where as soon as I walked on campus, it just sort of felt like home,” said Campanelli.
