As students stress over finals and daydream about summer vacation, next year’s class officers are busy planning for a successful school year. The class officers for the 2018-2019 school year are the following:

9th Grade:
President- Cristina Valladares
Vice President- Caroline Fields
Secretary- Maggie McWilliams
Treasurer- Sarah Phillips

10th Grade:
President- Sophia Ott
Vice President- Kaitlin Bower
Secretary- Khyariah Davis
Treasurer- Mia LaRochelle

11th Grade:
President- Jules Shepherd
Vice President- Loren Black
Secretary- Amina Wilson
Treasurer- McKenzie Moore

12th Grade:
President- Madison Nazar
Vice President- Hannah Ledford

Due to complications in previous years, the application process for class office positions changed. Candidates were required to fill out teacher recommendations to ensure they fit the job description. “Students only had to sign on a list [in previous years],” said SGA leader David Small. “This shows us they can be held more accountable.”

Freshman Class President Cristina Valladares said she ran for the position because she loves the school and had a great experience with it this year. She enjoys being involved in school activities and being a class officer allows her to participate in things she normally wouldn’t be able to. Valladares hopes to create a fun learning environment for her classmates next year.

Meanwhile, Sophomore Class President Sophia Ott said, “I decided to run for class president because I thought it was time for someone to step up and help our class become more involved.” She hopes to encourage participation in school activities and bring the class of 2021 together.

The Junior Class officers have been in office for the past two years, and next year’s president is Jules Shepherd. She ran for president this year due to her experience with Prom. Shepherd’s plans for the next year include planning an awesome Prom, having more committees to organize class activities, and connecting the class of 2020 through class T-shirts or events.

As for Senior Class President Madison Nazar, she has been involved with class council for three years and wanted to gain a higher position in office. Three goals she has for next year are to have winning Powderpuff and Macho Man teams, a successful and inexpensive senior trip, and to make senior year memorable and enjoyable. “Goodbyes are always hard, [so] I hope to make our last year in high school its best,” said Nazar.
