Taking a trip to “Outer Banks”

If you like a TV show with a little bit of everything in it, then Outer Banks is for you. At the end of every episode there is a huge cliffhanger, so it’s hard not to keep watching.

Set in Charleston, South Carolina, Outer Banks is a mash up of mystery and action with a little bit of romance thrown in. One of the main characters is a teen called John B (played by Chase Stokes), who is determined to find his father who went missing during a quest to find some long-lost gold. To do that, John B and his best friends, Kiara (Madison Bailey), Pope (Jonathan Daviss), and JJ (Rudy Pankpow), embark on a treasure hunt to find both John B’s dad and the gold.

The group eventually expands to include somewhat mean-spirited Sarah (Madelyn Cline), who contrasts with Kiara, who is sassy and fun. Pope is the smart and safe one, JJ is always getting into trouble, and John B is their adventurous leader.

The series also details their interactions with their community, which is split into two groups: the “Kooks” (the“rich people) and the “Pogues” (a less affluent group). This creates tension, as when Kiara, is a Kook but doesn’t care about class or money, has to confront her family, which does and looks down at her relationship with “Pogues” John B and his other friends. The tension between the two groups goes to show that being rich does not always make you happy.

If you like a little suspense, not really knowing what or how something is going to happen, and are comfortable with a little bit of violence, give this show a try. Keep in mind that Outer Banks is one of those shows where you have to pay attention; you can’t just sit there and not watch and still expect to pick up all the ins and outs of the plot. The plots have a lot of little detail, so if you were to walk away you may find yourself missing some important moments.

As for the audience, I would say it could appeal to any age group. My aunt introduced me to it and we both love the series, but it is definitely not intended for young children due to some violence. You can find Outer Banks on Netflix with one season consisting of 10 episodes. A second season is coming out in 2021.

I give Outer Banks a 10 out of 10 stars through its mystery, suspense, and how plot pieces all end up falling into place.
