With the closing of Fluvanna County Public Schools for seven days due to inclement weather, students shared their experiences while being cooped up at home from the snow. Some eenjoyed the days off in full relaxation, while others chose to spend their days on the ice. “I love racing my sisters to see who can go the farthest without getting wiped out. It’s fun because the cold air makes everything feel more exciting, and everyone is laughing the whole time,” said sophomore Gabriela Fernandez Morris.

Snow can often feel like an inconvenience, but it offers free time to prioritize a reset and recharge after the grueling winter months. As students adjusted to staying indoors, some found comfort in productivity and routine. “Being snowed in for days, I have to stay inside and keep myself entertained. Thankfully, having books and a home gym kept me going. It also allows me to map out what I want to do when we come back to school instead of being preoccupied with everything else. I can journal, fix my agendas, and even meal prep for the weeks ahead,” said senior Jordan Lewis.

Being stuck in the house can seem like a setback, but for some, it presents the opportunity to spend time with loved ones and slow down. With the snow falling outside, many families spent time together indoors. “I really like how cozy snow days are. I like to sit on the couch and spend time with my family while our fireplace is going,” said senior Isabelle O’Brien.

With the busy lives of students, the snow gave some a break from everyday life, letting them choose comfort and kick their feet up. For those always on the move, snow days forced a pause. “I’m always on the go and have to be moving, whether that is sports, lighting, or running. Snow days make it so I am forced to sit and be lazy while also doing little micro-chores. Snow days allow me to binge-watch my favorite shows, drink hot chocolate, and bundle up without judgment,” said senior Kaiya Wrigley.

In the solidarity of the snowstorm, many chose peace in their playlists. From ranging genres, listening to music offered a calming escape during the quiet days at home. “I listened to music in the evening and at night during the break,” said sophomore Conner Deery.
