“Invincible” is an animated Amazon Prime show loved by millions. Now in its fourth season, the show consists of eight seasonal episodes. Many celebrities voice the characters in this show. Voiced by Steven Yeun, the main character, Mark (a.k.a. Invincible), is a high school kid who lives in an alternate universe with superheroes everywhere. He lives with his dad, Omni-Man (voiced by J.K. Simmons), and he is part of a hero association. But in secret, Omni-Man is a Vilturmite, a race of aliens that go around planets, conquering them to gain power.
Omni-Man waits till Invincible gets his powers to conquer the earth, betraying everyone, including the Hero Association. As a result, Mark must fight his own father, but fails to beat Omni-Man or defend his planet. Out of pity for his son, Omni-Man decides to spare his son and return to his own planet.
Season 4 expands the “Invincible” world in major ways, introducing Vilturmites who force Mark to get stronger. After Omni-Man comes back and meets with Mark to combat these Vilturmites, Mark starts to trust his dad again, providing a major internal conflict throughout the season.
“Mark’s character has always been faced with difficult choices throughout the series. I think that Mark’s heroic nature is most defined by the choices that he makes based on the greater good for those around him. The choices of Mark’s past have helped shape the choices he will make in the future. His most defined character choices are the ones based on the greater good over those based on selfish intentions,” said FCHS Geometry teacher Jason Barnett.
One of the highlights of this new season is how much it pushes Mark emotionally, like when he loses control in a normal fight and crosses a line he never thought he would. This makes the audience start to wonder who he really is. In fact, this show’s biggest strength is that it shows that not all superheroes are perfect and that they don’t live perfect lives. Instead, it shows how power can change people, and always for the better.
”This season demonstrates that superheroes also need their heroes. And this show isn’t always about battles but also emotional battles,” said FCHS sophomore Jacob Evans.
The action in this new season is better than ever, with bigger battles and bigger stakes, reminding viewers this isn’t your typical animated show. And the intensity throughout this season makes Mark face the hard decision between letting Vilturmites coexist among them or being destroyed.
“Having Mark choose between his loved ones or the enemy living among them was the most interesting part of the whole season,” said sophomore Aria Kern.
