Jamie Hall: Dreaming of the Big Screen

Everyone has dreams. The difference between some people and others is whether they choose to pursue them or just sit back and keep dreaming. Fluvanna County High School senior Jamie Hall is the kind of person who pursues her dreams. Hall is big into acting, and wants to turn something that once was just a hobby into a full-time career.

Hall has learned that sometimes the most random things can be the start of something new. “I was antisocial and my mom wanted me to get out of that phase,” said Hall. So when she took a tour of the high school during her eighth grade year, she found out about Mr. Edgerton’s room. “They took us to the drama room and I really liked all of the comfy chairs and couches. I liked the relaxed feeling,” said Hall.

While she would like to pursue a career in acting, according to Hall, “everything’s up in the air.” Over the summer, Hall auditioned for acceptance into the American Music and Drama Academy, a prestigious acting school located in Los Angeles, California. “I was accepted in late July,” said Hall.

Hall wants to do film and TV acting when she is older and would take any role that was offered to her. Like any aspiring actress, she does have a dream role. “I’ve always wanted to be the little girl in a horror movie,” said Hall. When it comes to famous actors, she compares herself to Jim Parsons, who started his acting career in theater and was brought into TV. She also admires Johnny Depp for the fact that he dropped out of high school to pursue his dream of being a famous actor.

Even though she dreams of making it big in Hollywood, Hall’s main focus right now is on acting in school plays. Like many live actors, Hall gets stage fright every time before she goes on stage. “I panic, but once I’m on stage, the muscle memory comes back and the adrenaline rush just hits me,” said Hall. It also helps her when she reminds herself that the people in the audience are there to see her.

Hall enjoys being with her fellow cast mates. Before every show, the whole cast stands in a circle, puts their hands in the center, and yells “Quack!” repeatedly. After that, they recite the following: “Act well thy part; there, all your honor lies.” With Hall’s future lying right in Hollywood at the American Music and Drama Academy, it seems that Fluvanna could be producing a future star.
