Every year since 2021, seniors at Fluvanna County High School make their mark on the school, literally. Seniors paint their hands and put them on the senior lounge walls with their name and graduation year. “It was fun to see the handprints on the wall and find someone else’s hand prints to put mine beside,” said 2025 senior Jayden Hoy.

For the second portion of the event, students dyed white t-shirts featuring a blank line for them to showcase their post-graduate plans. Many students dyed their t-shirts to match their school colors, while others chose their favorite colors. “The tie dye was fun, but messy. I dyed my shirt red, blue, and black because I am going to work for the fire department after high school,” said senior Sean Orth.

Many students attended the event to connect with their peers before they go their separate ways. “I enjoyed the Decision Day stuff. It was fun to hear about where everyone was going and do one last thing as a community,” said senior Isabella Higginbotham.

Decision Day seniors a way to express themselves and what they’ve accomplished. Students wore the tie dye shirts they made on April 24 for the FCHS Decision Day Event on May 2, where senior class members came together and celebrated on the football field. “I’m going into the Air Force after high school, and it was nice to tell people what I’m doing,” said senior Dale Oliphant.

Some students already have their mind set on future plans while others are anxious about this new step in life. Either way, Decision Day represents a chance for seniors to celebrate the last four years. “I really liked the hand painting part of Decision Day. I plan on going to VCU for film production,” said senior Saige Miller.
