On April 3, Fluvanna County High School (FCHS) held its 11th annual Hands on Fluvanna event, a day of service designed to give back to the Fluvanna community. Junior Natalya Hamby (far left) was one of the students who remained at school to create cards to be sent out to nurses and hospice workers. “I’m so glad I was able to help make the cards, and I really hope they brightened someone’s day,” she stated.

Senior Josiah Cantu went to Pleasant Grove Park with his group and planted trees. “It felt like a very nice thing to do, being able to plant the trees and help the environment around me,” he stated.

Members of the FCHS varsity football team went out to the Old Stone Jail and spread mulch. “It was a great time to help out the community while also being with my buddies,” stated Junior Kenny Klein.

Under the direction of FCHS choir teacher Sara Harkrader, the choir went to the Fluvanna County Library, where they sang songs and read stories to little kids. Then they went to the Spring Oak Retirement Home in Louisa to sing for some senior citizens.

Eighth graders Branson Hayes and A.J. Smith participated in the event at school by making “Get Well Soon” cards for patients in the hospital or nursing home.
