In what fans thought was Taylor Swift’s biggest news of the year prior to her August 26 engagement, she announced the name of her upcoming album, “The Life Of A Showgirl,” on Aug. 12. The new album was leaked on Jason Kelce’s podcast New Heights, which features Swift’s then-boyfriend, and now fiancé, Travis Kelce. Swift pulled out a briefcase with the album cover inside. She revealed the album by showing the vinyl but blurred the photo, leaving fans thrilled and curious.
On Aug. 13, she revealed the cover on all social media platforms at 12:12 a.m. In the image, she appears to be lying in water with a shattered mirror effect, and orange, glittery words spelling out “The Life Of A Showgirl.” Swift said this album reveals “what was going on behind the scenes” during the European leg of her Eras tour back in 2024.
When Swift announced the album online, it got one million views in less than 10 hours. Many fans raved about the album drop and immediately went to her website, which promptly crashed due to the high traffic. Fans bombarded the site looking for announcements and to preorder vinyls and cassette tapes. Swift had a countdown on her website for preordering cassette tapes and vinyl, with a sparkly orange background. Another Easter egg was revealed during the Eras Tour when Swift said “See you next era” while wearing a sparkly orange outfit. Meanwhile, New York City teased Swift’s album by lighting the Empire State Building orange. In addition, many jumbo screens in New York City now show Swift’s album cover and a Spotify logo with a sparkly orange background.
Fans have also taken note of Swift’s repetition of the number 12. She announced the album on Aug. 12 at 12:12 a.m., there are 12 songs on the album, and this will be her 12th album, examples of Easter eggs that Swifties love to break down and figure out. Swift announced a Spotify playlist titled “And, baby, that’s show business for you.” It contains 22 songs that will have the same vibe as “The Life Of A Showgirl.”
Many students at FCHS were intrigued by Swift’s announcements. “I think the album is going to be a glitter pen vibe but also mixed with a little more of a mature vibe, such as 1989,” said senior Emma Sample.
In response to the new album announcement, teacher Mitchell Pace said, “I did hear–I saw on the news that she announced it on her boy’s podcast. I’m sure I’ll eventually hear a few songs, but I will not go out of my way to listen to it.”
Senior Sophie Pace said, “I could honestly see her going either way. If I had to guess, she will release another album because she is famous for the number 13 and she is on her 12th album now. However, I could see her stopping after this album as she is getting older and might want to settle down with Travis Kelce and have a calmer life.”
Swift’s album is expected to be released Oct. 3, 2025. Her music is available on Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music. More information can be found on Swift’s website, https://www.taylorswift.com, and on her social media platforms.
