A Passion for History
Over the 2016 winter break, a new social studies teacher was hired at FCHS. Tony Christ is now teaching US History,World History I, and American Cinema. Christ officially became a teacher in 2009 and has taught at five schools in Fairfax, including Mount Vernon High School, Lake Braddock Secondary School, Hayfield Secondary School, Woodson High School, and Centreville High School. He said he enjoys FCHS, however, the lunch schedule bothers him a little. “My least favorite thing is having the last lunch. I eat a snack between classes to keep from getting ‘hangry,’” he said.
Christ and his wife, Kellye, and three-year-old, Megan, moved to Fluvanna after his wife got a job teaching at the middle school as a math teacher. They applied for jobs in this area after they started to visit his in-laws who moved here in 2015. During his free time, he enjoys reading, watching movies, and playing with his daughter. “My favorite TV show is The Simpsons. I’ve watched it since the first episode. My favorite movie is Goodfellas,” said Christ.
Christ was born in Hayfield and has lived in Virginia his entire life. He went to James Madison University for his undergraduate years and majored in history. Then, he went to George Mason University for grad school, where he majored in education.
Christ doesn’t care what grade he teaches as long as he can talk about history… and he’s not teaching students under sixth grade. “ I don’t have the patience for it yet,” he said.
