January Staff Member of the Month: Cameron Wilmer
The first recognized staff member of 2017 is Cameron Wilmer, a fairly-new addition to the FCHS teaching staff. He is a first-year educator who teaches Reading, US and Virginia History, and Earth Science. “My day-to-day [experience] is answering emails and making sure all of my students are prepared for the day and have their assignments done. Also, showing up to each of the classes to provide help to the teacher as well as the students,” he said. Wilmer attends Longwood University, and has made an effort to stick close to his hometown of Charlottesville.
“My favorite part of the job is getting to know my students, and watching them grow as the year goes on,” he said, “although staying on top of all my responsibilities and completing them in a timely manner is challenging.” Wilmer has quickly become a well-liked member of the FCHS family.
Fellow FCHS employee Nick Ward describes Wilmer as a guy who “goes above and beyond in the classroom helping others out. Cameron has taken on the role of helping Mr. Peake with changing as well as helping the nurse, Mrs. Penn. He also spends three-fourths of the day in a resource room as the lead math educator in those rooms,” he said.
Wilmer has just recently been added to the SPED team as a full-time teacher. “He has gone from my student teacher in the spring semester last year, to Instructional Assistant, to full time teacher. It just goes to show the dedication he has for Fluvanna,” said Ward.
