FCHS Art classes allow students to relax a bit, showcase their creativity, and get outside their comfort zone. Those interested in a career in art can take advanced classes like AP Art History and independent art study. They may even get to go on field trips to art history museums to see what other artists have created. Here, junior Chloe Price works on a watercolor painting.

Students like junior Ella enjoy working on different projects and talking to friends while making their creations. “We love Art because it channels my inner Picasso. Ms. [Michelle] Coleman is the best,” said Squicciarini.

Art I students learn the basic skills of drawing and painting through projects like “The Name Project,” where students draw their name in pencil, then go over it with ink using different sized letters and designs. Here, junior Antwon Cater tackles the beginning steps in his name project. “My favorite thing about art is getting to decorate my folder,” he said.

Mike Morris’s Art I class, which is often taken by 8th graders or freshmen, also begins with the name project. “I like Art because I get lots of time to work by myself on projects,” said 8th grader Phoebe Frank (left, pictured with 8th grader Madelaine Gretz).

In Coleman’s Art IV and V classes, students can participate in independent studies. This gives students freedom to work on projects they are passionate about while furthering their artistic abilities. “Art is really great and I love working on art projects. I also can’t wait to further my art career,” said junior Chloe Price (pictured left with senior Ava Mullenax and junior Ella Squicciarini).
