FCHS Gym class offers students many games to participate in during class, such as wiffle ball, kickball, and Eiffel ball. In these games, one class is in the outfield while the other class kicks the ball. When the outfield catches three balls and gets three people out, the classes switch.

The gym is equipped with various sports gear, including volleyballs. “My favorite activity in the gym is playing volleyball. We get into small groups in a circle and play,” said 8th grader Jacob Birckhead. The gym coaches usually let students play volleyball or basketball at the end of the period, or they can walk around the gym.

Students engage in a daily exercise called stretching lines. They go back and forth between courts sprinting, doing push-ups, bear crawls, and crab walking. These exercises help warm up and prepare the gym students for activities.

Students participate in running each day. The coaches turn on music, and students know to run around the gym for the duration of the songs. When the music stops or the song changes, that’s when they get to walk and breathe for a few minutes.

In another activity, groups of 6-7 students do an exercise. Each line of students does different exercises. These exercises consist of push-ups, mountain climbers, lunges, wall sits, squats, and crunches. Students have to do these exercises for 20 seconds; then they switch to the next exercise.
