The Top Five Must-See Spring Movies

The past few years have been fairly lacking in the movie department. Seriously, with a few exceptions like The Last Jedi, IT, and Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2, we haven’t got any truly great movies in a pretty long time.

But 2018 is looking to change that up, with many movies from major franchises and other great companies coming out throughout the year. For example, here is a countdown of my top five movies to look for this spring:

# 5. Pacific Rim: Uprising

This action flick brings a second chapter to the awesome giant robot vs. monster series. In 2013, the original Pacific Rim started the story with an intriguing idea– honestly, who doesn’t want to watch giant robots fight off invading sea monsters?

However, one thing Pacific Rim was lacking in was its visual quality. Don’t get me wrong, for 2013, it looked pretty good, but considering how visual effects have improved over the years, it hasn’t exactly aged well. Now, five years later, the sequel arises, and…wow. The quality of the visuals has absolutely skyrocketed, and the updated graphics really help, making the giant robots and monsters actually seem like they’re right there in the world.

All the original movie had going for it was its original, cool concept; otherwise, it was pretty bland. But based on what I’ve seen so far, the sequel looks to bring both great effects and a memorable story. Pacific Rim: Uprising comes to theaters on March 23.

# 4. Truth or Dare

Blumhouse Studios have been making some stunning horror movies recently. Get Out was phenomenal, with its use of psychological horror keeping you guessing at every turn, and Happy Death Day took a fairly basic and cliched idea and transformed it into something amazing. So when I heard that another Blumhouse film was coming out this year, I was ecstatic.

Truth or Dare looks like yet another classic, and it’s seems super creepy. A group of teenagers play a “simple” game of truth or dare, but when they lie or refuse to complete a dare, the consequences turn deadly. This movie is overflowing in scary visuals, and I have pretty high expectations for this upcoming horror flick. Truth or Dare releases on April 13.

# 3. Black Panther

The final movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe before the next Avengers movie is Black Panther. This movie plans to bring some more information about the elusive Black Panther after he was introduced in Captain America: Civil War. That movie got me really intrigued with the character of Black Panther, the king of an African kingdom called Wakanda, who also takes up the mantle of his father to fight against those who wish to harm his homeland. This movie finally gives us the backstory we’ve been dying for, and features actors like Chadwick Boseman as the Black Panther, and Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, as well as Andy Serkis as a major villain, Klaw. Black Panther has an early release date of Feb. 16.

# 2. Solo

Ever since the new trilogy of Star Wars movies were announced, I’ve been waiting for the announcement of this film. Solo is yet another Star Wars story like 2016’s Rogue One. As you might expect Solo is all about everyone’s favorite smuggler, Han Solo. The cast that’s been released so far includes a variety of actors, new and old, like Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, and returning to the Star Wars scene, Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca. Almost no other information has been released about Solo, except its supposed release date of May 25.

# 1. Avengers: Infinity War

My most anticipated movie of 2018’s spring is Avengers: Infinity WarInfinity War is the culmination of the past few years of Marvel movies. All your favorite heroes throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe team up to fight against the Mad Titan, Thanos. I have literally been waiting for this movie since Thanos was first shown all the way back in 2010 during The Avengers.

Fan-favorites like Captain America (Chris Evans), Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Spider-man (Tom Holland), and many more will be appearing throughout the film. Infinity War will have possibly the biggest impact on the Marvel Cinematic Universe ever, with Thanos being the most dangerous enemy the Avengers have ever faced. One warning: Don’t stay too attached to your favorite heroes, since none of them are safe when Thanos has the Infinity Gauntlet. Avengers: Infinity War releases on May 4.
