There’s a new face on the 4500 hallway. Teacher Danny Reed is now teaching Sports Marketing, Intro to Marketing, and Principles of Marketing in Room 4506.
Reed was born and raised in Frederick, Maryland. After completing high school, Reed continued to Lynchburg College for an undergraduate degree in Business Management with a minor in Sports Management. He stayed at Lynchburg for a Master’s in Business Administration.
Reed says he has had a few careers, originally coming from the business and marketing world.
“In college, I had to make a decision: become a teacher, or enter the business world, and I chose the business world because of wanting to chase ‘the dream’ of rising through the ranks of a business and having a meaningful job,” he said.
However, Reed said he quickly learned that being in the business world wasn’t what he really wanted to do. While in college, he discovered he had a passion for teaching and coaching, and even came back from college each summer to teach his high school’s basketball team.
Realizing that nothing in the business world gave him the satisfaction that he knew coaching and teaching would, Reed decided to make the switch to teaching.
Now, he said he tries to bring energy and easy communication into the classroom, endeavoring to create a hands-on, student-centered environment. Since he believes that real learning comes from doing and explaining, he uses engaging warm-ups, interactive activities, and interesting discussions to keep students involved and help learning stick.
Reed’s wife also teaches at Fluvanna County Public Schools. He has two sons who go to Fluvanna County Middle School. Some of his favorite hobbies include sports, coaching, and spending time with his family. Reed has one dog, named Billy. Currently, Reed isn’t teaching a sport at the high school, but he coaches winter basketball at the middle school.
