FCHS Welcomes Michael Morris
In early May, FCHS welcomed a new football coach, Michael Morris. He graduated from FCHS in 1995, participating in football, basketball, tennis and track during his high school career. He later attended Bridgewater College, where he lettered in football under Coach Mike Clark.
Morris returned to Fluvanna this year, joining the faculty as an art teacher. He previously served on the FCHS football staff as the defensive coordinator for the JV team last fall. This team earned a record of 6-4, allowing 12.8 points per game with two shutouts.
Morris began his coaching career in Louisa County High School. He then moved to Powell Valley High School under VHSL Hall of Fame Coach Phil Robbins. His coaching responsibilities included running backs, linebackers, defensive backs and the JV team, and he eventually became Robbins’ Varsity Defensive Coordinator. At Powell Valley, Morris was a part of a state record, 20-year consecutive run of being in the play-offs and a Virginia State Runner-Up finish. Morris later transitioned to Union High School, where he became the Defensive Coordinator under Travis Turner.
Morris is optimistic, hoping to lead Fluvanna team to victory. “I just wanted to say ‘thank you’ to the county for giving me the opportunity to be the new head football coach. It takes the whole community to have a successful program, and I look forward to working with many of you on accomplishing this feat,” said Morris.
For anyone looking to get involved and help with rebuilding the football program, the time is now. “I am looking for people who would like to coach, film, volunteer, breakdown film, etc. If you would like to help in some capacity, please email me back or call/text. This is a big job and no gesture is too small to get this program turned around and headed in the right direction,” he said. Morris can be reached at [email protected] or by calling FCHS at 434-589-3666.
