The Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) hosted a Breast Cancer Walk at FCHS Oct. 31 to raise awareness of the disease. The group sold t-shirts for $10 and walk tickets for $1. All proceeds went to the VA Breast Cancer Foundation in Richmond.

Over five hundred people attended the walk, bringing in $450 in donations to the VA Breast Cancer Foundation. Among the attendees was a breast cancer survivor as well as the Fluvanna County Public Schools Superintendent Chuck Winkler and Assistant Superintendent Brenda Gilliam. Compared to previous walks, this year’s event was well-attended, thanks to an activity bell schedule which helped pique the interest of students and made it easier for staff members to attend.“We consider this year’s Breast Cancer Walk a major success,” said FBLA leader Linda Harding.

In addition to fundraising for breast cancer, the event was an opportunity for some classes to raise funds for their own programs. Nursing and Culinary sold refreshments for the walk, including cookies, pink lemonade, and lollipops.
