“It Ends With Us” Grabs the Attention
Many teenagers like to argue that when they grow up, they don’t want to be like their parents. In “It Ends With Us,” 20-year-old Lily is no exception.
After coming back home from her father’s funeral and giving a questionable eulogy, she doesn’t know how to feel. On the one hand, he was her father. On the other hand, how can somebody love the person who abused their mother? Lily swears to herself that she will never be in a relationship that is abusive.
Lily then proceeds to make a whole new life for herself in a new town, starting a business she has dreamed about since she was a kid. In addition to making new friends, she meets Ryle Kincaid, a hot neurosurgeon who makes her head spin. He appears to be a laid back, smart, nice guy, who keeps her on her toes everyday. Nothing can go wrong…right?
As the plot thickens, the author throws in an ex-boyfriend, the fact that Ryle may not be all he seems, and some other twists, and Lily soon realizes that things might not go as she planned.
When I started reading this riveting book, I couldn’t stop. The book sucks you in with its descriptions and doesn’t let go until the final page. As you turn the pages, you have no idea what to expect, and when you think you do– well, guess again. Lily makes you want to help her and is a very relatable character. You want to yell at all the characters for something they do and stuff they don’t do, so you become very involved in the book.
Author Colleen Hoover takes on the real life issue of abuse in a way that you wouldn’t expect and then takes you on a rollercoaster ride of emotions. Even though the book is told through Lily’s perspective, you can still tell how the other characters are feeling by their dialogue and their actions.
Hoover has released 11 other novels, as well as five novellas. She has reached the #1 position on the New York Times Bestseller List on many occasions and received a Goodreads Choice Award for Best Romance. Two of her books are being turned into movies and she is always writing new books for her fans, mostly young adults and readers who like romance. The novel can be bought in paperback on Amazon.com and at Barnes and Noble.
“It Ends With Us” easily turned into one of my favorite novels and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves to read, and even those who don’t usuallly enjoy reading, since will capture your attention from page one. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.
