If you’ve noticed that one Fluvanna restaurant on South Boston Road seems to have gone through several names, you’re not alone.  Known as Rivahsyde when it opened a few years ago, the restaurant became popular among local residents for its juicy burgers, fries, shakes and other typical American food. Since then, however, the restaurant has had multiple owners and has gone through some tough times.

The newest incarnation of the restaurant, KC Burgers, is once again owned by original Rivahsyde owner Celeste Duncan, who has returned the eatery to its roots. According to Duncan, the restaurant’s best items are without a doubt “our burgers, followed by our Philly steaks.” Many local residents agree. “I have been eating at KC’s ever since it was Rivahsyde, and I have always enjoyed the food. The service has always been great no matter who the owner was,” said Senior Colby Deforge.

Although the building has been basically the same restaurant throughout its owners, KC Burgers is trying hard to have a fresh start and adapt to the new environment. “We have a good amount of regulars, but I do not think many people know we are opened up again,” said employee Albert Stone, a cook for the restaurant.

KC’s has a variety of burgers and cheeseburgers (ranging from $4.50 to $8.45), chicken and fish homeplates which come with shoe-string fries and cole slaw ($6.95 to $7.95), sandwiches such as Reubens, Philly steaks, and veggie burgers ($4.50 to $7.95), and desserts such as pies, cheesecake and shakes (most run $3.95 each).  One recent Yelp reviewer recommended the “Gus Burger” (egg, bacon, and cheese) and their Double Bacon Cheeseburger. “They were both amazing,” said another Yelp reviewer. As for FCHS Sophomore Sarah Spitler, she says that her favorite item at KC Burgers is their french fries.

The restaurant staff have high hopes and are striving to last longer than any of the previous restaurants in that location. The eatery is a labor of love for Duncan, who has kept the new restaurant’s menu faithful to its origins, so previous patrons can rest assured they’ll still be able to enjoy their favorite items. Some, like Deforge, say they’ve enjoyed all versions of the restaurant. “I try to go at least once a week and it never seems to get old,” he said.

Located next to Dollar General and across the street from CVS, KC Burgers is open from 10 am-9 pm Mondays-Saturdays. From Feb. 19 through April 23 they will be observing a winter schedule and will closed on Sundays. After April 23, they will be open on their regular schedule Monday through Saturday, as well as 11 am to 6 pm on Sundays.
