With the departure of FCHS Superintendent Gena Keller, who resigned in November to work at the Fluvanna County School Board announced that it will begin the process of hiring a Superintendent. The Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) will assist the Board in the search. The first step in the lengthy process is is seeking input from the community regarding the qualifications and characteristics they would like to see in their next superintendent.

The School Board has created a survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/FluvannaSearch, which is related to the Superintendent criteria. The survey can also be found on the homepage of the Division’s website. Hard copies of this survey will be easily available in multiple locations, including the School Board Office (the former Palmyra Elementary School on Route 15), each school location, community businesses, county offices, and the Fluvanna County Public Library. Once the survey is completed, please return all hard copies to the Fluvanna County School Board Office to the attention of Brandi Critzer, Assistant to the Superintendent and Clerk to the School Board or one of our schools.

In addition to offering the survey, the School Board will hold a public hearing on Feb.1 at 7:00 p.m. The hearing will take place at the Fluvanna County School Board Office.

“Hiring a new Superintendent is the biggest task a school board will face and we want to make sure that the public has a voice in this process,” said School Board Chairman Carol Tracy Carr. ”We hope that parents, staff, and residents will take time to fill out the survey or attend the public hearing.” Former Assistant Superintendent Chuck Winkler is serving as Interim Superintendent until the position is filled, likely in April.
