Seniors Storm Baltimore

Despite a very poor weather forecast featuring rain and cold temperatures, 88 seniors braved Mother Nature to be a part of the annual senior field trip on April 28. Normally, the annual senior field trip would involve a visit to amusement parks such as Bush Gardens or Six Flags. This year, however, FCHS’ seniors took a bus up to Baltimore, Maryland.

After converging and then departing from the high school at 6:30, the group and their chaperones spent the next few hours making their way up to Baltimore. Once there, the students boarded a cruise around the Baltimore Harbor and enjoyed a hot lunch on board. This was followed by music and the opportunity to hop onto the deck and observe the Baltimore Harbor (although some students chose not to do so since it was pouring rain during the majority of the trip). Afterwards, seniors were given the green light to explore the various shops and restaurants around the harbor.

Later, they were all brought to an exciting baseball game between the Orioles and the White Sox where the Orioles came out on top with a score of 10-2. After a long day in Baltimore, the seniors made their exhausted way back to Fluvanna, arriving at 2 am the next morning (which was conveniently Senior Skip Day).

“My favorite part was definitely the baseball game because I love baseball and it was a lot of fun cheering with the crowd,” said senior Olivia Haacke. “I think my favorite part was the lunch cruise,” said senior Tommy Riddler. “The food was fantastic. The baseball game was a lot of fun too; we had the wave going. [Teacher Jason] Barnett got on the jumbotron. So it was all around a fantastic trip,” he said.

Senior Caitlyn Taylor agree with Riddler. “One of my favorite things was during the game where Barnett got up and started interacting with the crowd and we were all clapping. Despite the weather, we just had an amazing time,” she said.
