On April 9, Senior Oliver Dubon and Junior Connor Reilly teamed up with 300 of Virginia’s best high school musicians in order to perform a fantastic program. Dubon plays the tuba and Reilly plays the bassoon. In order to qualify for such an event, each student had to be one of the top two instrumentalists in their district or region on their instrument. Afterwards, they had to audition against every other top two musicians from each of the 16 districts, four senior regional orchestras, and place within the top 10 from that pool in order to earn their position.

“It was really interesting to play as the First Tuba in the bottom band because the conductor didn’t use a baton– he only used his hands to conduct the band,” said Dubon.
