The Fork Union Village Restaurant
As you drive through the little old town of Fork Union, a lot of things have changed over the years, but there is one thing that hasn’t: The Fork Union Village Restaurant. You’ll feel at home in the casual dining room while enjoying a delicious home-style meal.
Located in the middle of Fork Union along Route 15, “The Village” as it is called by locals has been a hopping business since the 1960’s. It was originally under the name “The Wagon Wheel”. The Leland family owned the restaurant for about twenty years until 1989, and it then became the well known “Fork Union Village Restaurant.” For around thirty years, the Baker family owned the restaurant. In 2004, Keith and Julie Jones’ family went out on a whim, and bought the business.
With changing owners several times lots of things have changed about the restaurant, but there is one thing that has remained the same through it all: the upbeat, friendly environment that you feel as soon as you walk through the door. With such a small community, there are many “regular” customers that come weekly or even daily. The laughter, smiles, and conversations you have with employees will make you feel like you’re right at home. “It truly is a family environment at the Village as soon as you walk through our door,” said waitress Marie Brown.
The only day that the restaurant is closed is Monday. Weekdays they are open from 11 AM to 8:30 PM. Fridays and Saturdays they are open from 11 AM until 9 PM. On Sundays they open at 11 AM and close 8 PM.
Their menu includes good, old-fashioned country food. From the sides to the entrees, anything you order at the Restaurant will be nothing less than satisfactory. You can order an entree with two sides or just a sandwich with one side. In addition to the regular menu, The Village comes out with new daily and monthly specials. “Keith often tries out new recipes for the monthly specials, so it is often interesting to try his new creations. He also sometimes brings back dishes that are seasonal and that is a nice touch,” said regular customer.
Choices include burgers and sandwiches, chef salads, and a variety of entrees. From their famous cheeseburger with options of french fries or onion rings for $5.00, or the grilled chicken dinner with a choice of two sides for $9.50, their options will fill your appetite. But there is definitely one favorite entree. “Our most popular item is probably the pork tenderloins,” said owner Julie Jones. The Pork tenderloin dinner is $8.95 and includes two sides.
Still hungry after you finish your dinner? Don’t worry, the Village offers a wide variety of desserts as well! From ice cream sundaes to cake to the brownies, you will definitely be able to fill your sweet tooth. Head chef Keith Jones not only cooks the majority of meals, but also has made a business of baking cakes such as his Famous Oreo Cake or the yellow cake with chocolate icing.
No matter what you order, you will be delighted by not only the food, but also the environment. Whether you live in Fork Union or you’re just making a stop as you are drive through, as you soon as walk through the door, you feel as though you just became a part of a new family.
