Fluvanna County High School’s girls’ soccer teams are five games into the 2026 season, with the varsity team currently at 2-2-1 and hoping to top their 2025 record of 2-14-1, and JV standing at 4-1 team and endeavoring to match or improve on their 2025 record of 11-3.
Although six seniors from the 2025 graduating class have moved on, new opportunities have opened up for rising players. Three freshmen have been pulled up to varsity, bringing fresh energy and speed to the team.
Varsity is led by Head Coach Kat Hinkle, while Gary Davis returns as JV Head Coach. Albemarle remains one of the top teams in the area, and Fluvanna hopes to put up a fight against them and along with many other opponents. Both varsity and JV are practicing every day, building strength for what is a long season ahead, knowing conditioning is the key.
“Yes, we lost six seniors last year, but we have bonded so well. We all trust each other and believe that this team has what it takes to take it the whole way this year,” said varsity player and sophomore Amy Foreman.
“Last year we were tired before halftime, and that’s what caused many losses,” said varsity player and sophomore Claire Petrylak.
Despite last year’s struggles, the teams remain determined and excited as this new season continues. Many players also practiced throughout the summer to prepare.
The season opened up on Mar. 18 with a home game against Goochland County High School, a familiar district team. Despite a strong fight, Fluvanna’s girls varsity soccer team lost 4-2, and their JV team lost 6-0.
The team followed up with an away game on Mar. 19 game against Madison County High School (MCHS), where varsity won 2-0. JV won as well with a final score of 2-1.
With both teams being 1-1, there was still plenty of work to do. They went on to play Liberty Christian High School on Mar. 23, where varsity tied 1-1, and JV won with a tremendously large victory of 7-0.
On Mar. 25, both teams played MCHS at home. Varsity bounced back with a 4-0 win, and JV continued to roll through another team and win 6-0.
Varsity now stood 2-1-1 and JV stood 4-1, both teams feeling strong and confident as they marched through their schedule and played tough opponents. They would go on to play their latest game against Albemarle County High School at home on Mar. 26, and varsity lost 5-1, but JV showed resilience and strength by winning a close game that ended 2-1.
“This season has been a lot better. We’ve grown more and just become better,” said JV player and freshman Sydney Gentry on how she feels about this current season.
As of Mar. 29, varsity has an overall record of 2-2-1, but that does not define the high pride and strength they hold for themselves as they remain confident. JV stands at 4-1, showing that their youth enables them to be capable in winning the tough games.
Both teams are preparing to face Monticello High School away on Apr. 2, a familiar rival in the same district. JV kicks off at 5:30 P.M., and varsity later follows at 7:00 P.M.
