JV boys basketball ended their season with a solid 8-9 record overall. Even though their record could have been better, the players continued to compete and show determination to keep pushing forward.
This season had its ups and downs with some tough losses, especially against strong teams like Albemarle and Western. Those games were challenging, but they helped the team learn how to handle pressure and stay focused.
Nonetheless, the team had some exciting wins this year. Scoring a big win against Chancellor High School gave the team confidence early in the season. Another close game against Monticello High School showed how much the team has improved. The players worked together, played strong defense, and stayed calm in stressful moments.
“I think the JV basketball team has grown immensely from the beginning of the season to the end,” said Head Coach Brandon Townes. “It took us a while to figure out how to play together and what our identity was as a team. The snow didn’t help us, but towards the end we figured it out and won five of our last six games to end the season.”
One thing that stands out about the team is their effort. They hustled for loose balls, played tough defense, and supported each other on the bench and on the court. They appeared to enjoy playing with one another, and their team chemistry improved as the season went on, which helped them in close games. The players learned to communicate more and show leadership in different ways, whether by encouraging teammates or stepping up in big moments.
Defense was one of their stronger areas this season, as they communicated well and worked to limit easy baskets. On offense, they were still improving, but their ball movement and shot selection improved after the first few games as players began to understand their roles and play with more confidence.
“The offseason has been quiet so far,” said Townes. “The season just ended, so it’s giving the players and coaches time to rest before we get back into the swing of things to prepare for next season.”
