At the regional dive meet on Feb. 7 and the regional swim meet on Feb. 10, the Flying Flucos performed extremely well. Out of 18 teams at Regionals, the girls finished 3rd, and the boys finished 10th, with many team members moving on to States.
Abby Caruso was the regional champ in the 100 freestyle, while, diver Brandon “Cash” Johnson was the regional champ in the one-meter dive.
“I was pretty excited about getting the regional champ in the [freestyle race], and I was also quite proud of my teammate Sophie Pace, who also placed very high in that race,” shared Caruso. She attributed her success to “my coaching and being able to be in the pool so often with my teammates, as well as my parents who drive me everywhere and put so much time into my swimming.”
These athletes spend a lot of time in the pool to achieve these results. “If the weather is good, I’m in the pool close to 8 or 9 hours a week,” said Caruso.
Swim and Dive coach Mitchell Pace asked that FCHS students and staff congratulate the following athletes who will be moving on to the state competitions, with dive on Feb. 18, and swim on Feb. 19:
