The Flucos’ varsity softball team has had a strong start to the season, earning a 5-2 record so far under the guidance of Coach Aime McCall.
“Our season is going great so far,” said junior Natalie Gomez. “We play so well together and are on fire. I hope that our team goes as far as I know we can. Our biggest goal is to give every game our 100% and go far,” she added.
The last couple of games have been blowout wins for the Flucos. One standout was the April 8 game against Charlottesville High School, where the Flucos beat the Black Knights 22-1, highlighting the Flucos’ strong defense and batting power.
“The best part of playing softball is playing with my teammates and having a good time beating our rivals. I hope to see us continuing to hit the ball well and continue to keep our defense sharp, as well as winning lots of games,” said varsity player and senior Jillian Davis.
Team members have shared that they have a special bond and synergy this season.
“The chemistry is very good this year,” said junior Megan Poundsberry. “We all feel like a family, and with the more games we play, the closer we all get as a team. Every player supports each other with every play, and we all stay super engaged in our games. I hope we keep this strong energy going forward and hopefully play in the postseason,” she added.
Their next game will be at Louisa on April 22 and at Goochland on April 24.
