Fluvanna County High School has set guidelines for students who may be eligible to be exempt from final exams. To qualify, students in grades 9-12, as well as 8th graders enrolled in high school credit classes, must meet two conditions: They need an A average and no more than 4 absences, or a B average and no more than 3 absences. Unlike last year, when excused absences did not count, this year both excused and unexcused absences are considered toward this limit.
According to Assistant Principal Stacey Holland, in addition to meeting the academic and attendance requirements, students must have no recorded disciplinary infractions in Powerschool (this includes referrals for being tardy to class or skipping) and fewer than three violations of the school cell phone/electronic policy.
Some classes may not allow exam exemptions due to the nature of the course, and students will be informed of this at the start of the semester.
Even if students qualify for an exemption, they can still choose to take the exam if they believe it will improve their grade. The type of exam can vary by class, and may include a written test, project, or research assignment.
For questions about absences or tardies, students should contact the Attendance Officer Leigh Haden.
