The FCHS choir had an impressive moment on April 24, earning the highest score of the whole day at the annual “Music in the Park” competition held at Busch Gardens. Talent, practice, and teamwork helped the group make their appearance at this event a success.
Around 50 students participated in the event. Their performance exceeded expectations as the choir placed first in their category and received a Superior rating. On top of that, they were named Overall Champions.
This was the first year that the choir had been to this event. Last year, they had planned to join the competition at Kings Dominion instead, but had to reschedule it due to weather setbacks.
Choir teacher Sara Harkrader expressed pride and gratitude in the effort and outcome. “I thought the kids gave a great performance and I am very proud of them,” she said.
Beyond the group’s success, one individual moment stood out, as sophomore Amy Forman received Outstanding Student Accompanist for her trumpet solo.
“I had no idea I was competing, so I just wanted to make it sound as best as I could for the choir,” she said. “All I did was have fun with it and play with confidence, so when my name got called, I was overwhelmed while everyone around me was cheering.”
