The most exciting part of the year for many upperclassmen has arrived: Prom season. This year, Prom is set to take place on April 25 in the FCHS cafeteria from 8 p.m.-11 p.m. The theme, “Love is a Gamble,” is based on casinos and the aesthetic of Las Vegas. The decor will feature various colors of gold, black, and red. The event is being planned and organized by the Junior Class Student Council, including Dawson Raines, Mallory Esch, Peter Fulk, and Claire Bomberger. Alongside them, teachers Jennifer Kettrick and Sherry Esch are helping to pull it all together.
“The junior class council takes most of the credit in all the planning. They worked together very hard to set and pick the themes for Prom. They had five different themes in mind and made a slideshow presentation to decide on the final one. I’m looking forward to the big night,” said Kettrick.
As with any other school event, students are required to be in good standing in terms of attendance and grades in order to participate. This means they must have seven or fewer absences, two or fewer discipline referrals, and be passing three out of four, or four out of five, classes. In addition, students must also not owe any school fees, such as compensation for broken Chromebooks or missing library books, in order to buy tickets.
Next week, the Prom court, including the Prom Queen and King, will be chosen. A Google Form asking for nominations was already emailed to students. Final voting will take place next week.
Tickets for the dance are currently being sold during school lunches and will be sold daily through April 24. Tickets are $20 each, and guest forms are due Monday, April 20. Forms must be approved and signed off by the administrator of the guest school.
This year, the music will be brought by DJ Reggie Watts, harboring excitement and a good time. As is traditional, many students’ evening will begin prior to the dance, including getting dinner and taking pictures.
“I can’t go to prom yet, but I’m excited for next year and to be able to get ready, dress up, and spend time with my friends,” said Sophomore Andrea UrrutiaMoreno.
