With graduation being just two months away, it’s important to know the dates and information below to make sure graduates are not missing anything to create a smooth and memorable end to their senior year.
Cap & Gown
Cap & gown distribution has already passed, but Senior Class Adviser Mitchell Pace urges those who did not pick up their previously ordered cap & gown that day to do so in his room, #4502. Those who haven’t ordered theirs yet should order right away so that they arrive on time. Students can order their cap & gown at Jostens.com.
Junior/Senior Prom
This year’s prom will be held on April 25, from 8 p.m–11 p.m. The theme was announced by the junior class council to be “Love is a Gamble,” which will have casino-inspired decorations and atmosphere. Tickets usually go on sale two weeks before the date, so make sure to plan accordingly. Here is a video created by teacher David Small going into more detail about the event.
Decision Day
Decision Day will be held on April 30 during 4th block. This event is where seniors can come together and celebrate their decisions regarding what they will do after graduation. It will include food, drinks, and games for seniors to play on the football field. Expect to receive details in your email and on “In the Know” after spring break.
Big Spring Senior Trip
The “Big Spring Senior Trip” is set to take place on May 1. This year’s trip will include traveling to Washington, D.C., and enjoying a lunch cruise down the Potomac River with music. Then, seniors will walk through the National Zoo and finish the day with a Nationals baseball game.
Senior Walk
One of FCHS’s many traditions is the Senior Walk, where students travel to each school division to walk the halls one last time. Students are required to wear their graduation gowns and must ride the bus with other students. This will take place on May 18 from 9:00 a.m–10:30 a.m. Signups are required, so click here to sign up.
Last Day of School
The last day of school for all students will be May 20. By this date, graduates should make sure items like Chromebooks and chargers are turned in, and that they have paid any unpaid fees, such as library fines or fines for lost textbooks.
Mandatory Graduation Practice & Senior Picnic
The mandatory graduation practice will take place on May 21 at 9:00 a.m on the football field. During this event, students will walk through how to line up and walk at graduation. Afterwards, there will be a senior picnic at the pavilion near the Pleasant Grove Dog Park. Food and drinks will be provided to seniors. If seniors attended the “Big Spring Senior Trip,” they will receive the food for free; if they did not, they must pay a $5 fee.
Graduation
This year’s graduation will occur on May 22. Graduates are required to arrive at 4:30 p.m, with graduation officially starting at 6:00 p.m. Remember that graduates are not allowed to decorate their caps, and that all heels should be wide or wedge-shaped so they don’t stick into the astro turf on the field. Don’t forget to bring sunglasses and wear sunscreen.
Events such as the Senior Awards and Senior Parade have yet-to-be-decided dates. They will be announced through email by School Counseling and Mitchell Pace.
