The March 1 Actor Awards–formally called the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards–showcased an evening of glamorous outfits, shocking winners, and politics. The Actor Awards are given by the two major actors’ unions in Hollywood.
As usual, a lot of people tuned in to the show for the red carpet walk, the most glamorous part of the evening, since you never know what people are going to wear. The dress code was “Reimagining Hollywood Glamour From the ‘20s and ‘30s,” and many actors had looks that fully embodied this theme.
Some nominees in particular were named “Best-Dressed” by Business Insider, including Keri Russell, recognized for her role in “The Diplomat,” and Michael B. Jordan, recognized for his role in the horror film “Sinners.”
Meanwhile, some made the “Worst Dressed” lists. According to “The List,” actress Sandra Bernhard’s mustard yellow dress “took inspo from her drapes,” while they complained that “Severance” star Zach Cherry’s outfit “desperately needed a tailor’s touch.”
One of the most talked-about moments at the show was when Michael B. Jordan won “Outstanding Male Actor in a Leading Role” for “Sinners.” A lot of fans had thought “Marty Supreme’s” Timothee Chalamet was going to take home the award.
A frequent occurrence at the last award shows is nominees wearing the “ICE out” pins on their outfits, and that was no exception for the Actor Awards. Some of the nominees wearing these pins were “Sinners” Wunmi Mosaku and Benson Miller, and “The White Lotus’” Jon Gries.
Although there were fewer politically-oriented speeches than at the recent Grammy Awards, actor Amy Madigan dedicated her award for “Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role” to “union people,” stating, “They’re not going to bust us.”
Next up on the annual Hollywood awards events is the Academy Awards (also known as the Oscars), which will be held on March 15 on ABC. You can find the list of Oscar nominations here.
