FCHS art teacher Michelle Coleman has brought back her annual “M(Art)ch Madness” competition, a battle between some of the most significant and influential art pieces in history. Drawing from all sources of media, from historical sites and architecture to paintings and sculptures, 64 different pictures have been chosen from the “AP 250,” the 250 most famous artworks that AP Art History students are required to study. These pictures will be narrowed down to one winning image, which will be announced on ITK and celebrated in the AP Art History class at the end of March.
Now in its third year, Coleman’s M(Art)ch Madness competition engages students and builds excitement for art and its creation in her classroom.
“I want to generate excitement for Art and Art History while advertising for my courses,” said Coleman.
During the competition, Coleman’s AP students also compete in M(Art)ch Madness weekly activities for extra credit. AP Art History students are required to vote in the competition, and for every picture they choose in each round that moves on to the next round, they receive extra credit points. Each round is worth more points as the stakes increase.
Students and staff who want to vote should look for weekly emails from Coleman during March, or look for the M(Art)ch Madness link on the Student Hub.
The brackets will be as follows:
- Round 1: March 2-6
- Round 2: March 9-12
- Round 3: March 13-17
- Round 4: March 18-20
- Round 5: March 23-25
- Final Round: March 26-27
The winning artwork will be announced on ITK on March 30.
