The Fluvanna County School Board has announced the appointment of Jacob Critzer as the new Head Baseball Coach, succeeding Coach Joel Gray, who is retiring after seven years of dedication, leadership, and service to the baseball program and the school community.
“Wishing the best to Coach Joel Gray as he moves on to retirement,” said Scott Morris, Athletic Director. “We are very excited to move forward with Coach Jacob Critzer at the helm. He has a great supporting cast, and I am confident that the future is bright for the FCHS baseball program.”
“Fluvanna Baseball is gaining more than a coach–we’re gaining a leader. Coach Jacob Critzer leads with kindness, gives with generosity, and is committed to developing both strong athletes and even stronger young men,” said Principal Mrs. Margo Bruce.
Following a comprehensive search process, Coach Critzer was selected by an interview committee composed of parents, athletic department staff, and school administrators. The committee unanimously recognized his vision for the program, commitment to student development, and passion for fostering a competitive and supportive team environment.
He and his wife were both born and raised as Flucos and remain active members of the community. They are excited to support the program as it enters this new chapter.
“I’m honored to step into this role,” said Coach Critzer. “As a graduate and employee of Fluvanna Schools and someone who grew up around this program, this opportunity means a great deal to me. I’m grateful for the chance to build on the foundation Coach Gray created. My coaching team and I look forward to working with the athletes of Fluvanna County Public Schools in the upcoming years.”
“I am thrilled to have Coach Critzer lead our baseball program,” commented division superintendent Dr. Peter Gretz. “He brings a strong commitment to developing student-athletes not only as competitors, but as leaders of character. His passion for the game, combined with his dedication to mentorship, will have a lasting impact on our players and our program.”
