For the week of Feb. 9-13, people all across Virginia will be celebrating “Kindness Week,” a week to appreciate acts of kindness, sharing, and compassion. The FCHS Counseling Department is sponsoring activities at FCHS for Kindness Week, including spirit days where students can dress up to support the event.
“With National School Counseling Week, the FCHS school counselors hope to share with others the many different roles and responsibilities they play to help support a student’s overall success. With Virginia Kindness Week, we hope to promote community and inclusivity by spreading kindness and positivity,” said FCHS Counselor Morgan Duncan.
The Counseling Department offers students a way to share their problems and concerns, as well as help them navigate life. They can further work to support a student’s social and emotional well-being, career goals, and academic success.
“Counseling is a non-judgmental, confidential, and unbiased space that allows a person to navigate their social, emotional, mental, and overall well-being and health. We collaborate with school personnel, family, and community resources to build the best pathways for a student to grow into their best self. Counseling is also an opportunity to promote the mental health field. It is a student’s first insight into mental health resources in their future. If we do well now, a student will likely pursue help in their future, which is a win in my opinion,” shared FCHS Counselor Heaven Chumley.
Fluvanna Counselors recently sent out flyers to teachers reminding them of what the Counseling Department can offer students. Those facts are pictured below.
