The Fluvanna SPCA has teamed up with FCHS to host a dog adoption event at the home football game on Oct. 3 at the FCHS stadium. Several dogs will be present and up for adoption, with the prices varying by the age of the dog. Puppies are $250, adults are $100, and seniors are $50.
If you want to consider adopting a pet at the event, you can pay online through their adoption application. Some adoption fees can be covered by donors.
One such dog likely to be available for adoption at the event is Sundrop, pictured above.
“She is a petite hound mix that came in as a stray,” said FSPCA volunteer and FCHS teacher Melody Morgan, who volunteers regularly with the center. “She was very skinny with her ribs poking through when she was first brought in. She smiles with her teeth and has slowly grown out of her timid and scared shell into a loving and playful pup,” she added.
Morgan says that the FSPCA takes in an average of 7 to 15 dogs a month, with an average of 2 to 5 rescues–including cats, dogs and bunnies–per month. The non-profit center is always looking for help to support their efforts, so people can donate to the center at this link. Those wanting to make a donation of material goods can do so through the center’s Amazon or Chewy wish lists.
Those wishing to provide hands-on assistance at the FSPCA, such as dog walking, cat socializing, and vet transporting, can learn more about volunteer opportunities here. The center is always looking for people interested in fostering pets.
