As the April 26 Prom night approaches, students are finishing last-minute plans, scheduling appointments, buying accessories, and figuring out after-Prom plans. Inspired by the Disney movie “Tangled,” the “Tangled in the Stars” theme means that purple and gold decorations and lanterns will greet students as they walk into the Cafeteria. Some people are excited about the prom theme and colors, while others are skeptical.
“I don’t like to dress according to the theme because I like picking the color of my dress, and I’m picky with the style of my dress. Going on theme limits my options,” said junior Emma Sample.
“I dressed for the Prom theme, one, because I am in student council, so I thought it was appropriate, but also because my favorite color happens to be purple. So I’m glad it worked out both ways,” said junior Molly McCall.
For a lot of people, Prom day traditions include nail and hair appointments, taking pictures, and going out to eat. Some of the food spots students are talking about include El Vaquero, Plaza Azteca, Danny’s, Sedona Taphouse, and Timberwood Grill. If past trends continue, expect Keswick, Spring Creek, and Pleasant Grove to attract a lot of students for pre-Prom photos.
As for fashion, one trending dress style among Flucos for 2025 appears to be backless dresses and dresses with slits. Compare this to last year’s trend of students wearing black to go with the 2024 “Masquerade” theme. Time will tell if many students dress in purple or gold accents to match the “Tangled” theme.
As always, some people’s favorite parts of Prom are the after-Prom activities. A recent poll on @flucojournalism asked students what they plan to do after Prom:
- Go to a party: 35%
- Have a small gathering: 22%
- Go home: 43%
For some, Prom isn’t their cup of tea. Some people might go one year and skip the next, while others never attend Prom at all.
“I’m not going to prom this year because it’s not worth spending almost $500 to go for 40 minutes [when] no one is dancing and just standing around,” said senior DeAndre McCloud.
