Once I lived in a place so flush
Grinning flora all around me
Black bird rooks would sit so high upon my branches and watch the bugs crawl at my roots
In the spring, when the sky was grey, my green friends and I would laugh with our branches
The sound of rustling leaves always graced the air
Now in the summer, the green has left
Dead grass for miles around my trunk is all one can see
The sweet, delicate grey of the sky has departed, replaced by the harsh sun and blinding blue sky
So, now I wait alone
For them to come
To strip me of my bark and leaves and cut out my heart
