These cuts and bruises have memories
Some good and some bad
I love the way you sewed my heartstrings together
I’m your favorite toy ripped at the seams
Following you everywhere as I bleed out my love
But all things must come to an end
Now that you’ve broken me
Ripping out my stuffing as the blood seeps into my fur
A knife in my heart that you once stitched up
Now you’re towering over me with a wicked smile
My eyes are glassy with tears as I realize your horns
This is why you called me little lamb
Because I’m the sacrifice
This poem by Creative Writing student McKenzie Baty ’25 was inspired by artwork by Zoie Deane ’25, which was in turn inspired by a piano piece performed by music student Khylie Sprouse ’25.
Khylie’s piece can be found here with other artworks and pieces from the Graphics/Piano collab.
