FCHS Athletic Director Scott Morris was recently awarded the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Citation Award for 2024. Morris was one of only eight athletic administrators among the nearly 20,000 member high schools in the United States and the District of Columbia who earned the award for 2024. The award will be presented to Morris this December at the National Athletic Directors Conference in Austin, Texas.
According to the NFHS, “Citations are presented annually to outstanding athletic directors in recognition of contributions to interscholastic athletics at the local, state, and national levels. State associations nominate athletic directors for NFHS Citations, and the NFHS Board of Directors approves recipients.”
Attending Radford University for Criminal Justice, and later completing his master’s degree in Administration and Supervision at Longwood University, Morris began his teaching and coaching career as a Social Studies teacher in Madison County, also acting as the co-coach for boys and girls basketball and baseball through 1995 to 1999. The same year he left Madison, Morris taught in Fluvanna County as a government teacher and multi-sport coach. In 2004, he became the FCHS Athletic Director.
Since then, Morris has worked with the school to introduce a variety of new sports like boys and girls swim, boys and girls lacrosse, girls field hockey, wrestling, speech, debate, and Esports.
“We offer 29 different sports and activities, and over 700 kids do something [in sports],” said Morris.
Morris said his favorite part of his job is “being able to offer as many opportunities for the students at FCHS as possible.”
