Erin Edgerton

A Life of Photography

By day she’s an average high school junior. By night she’s a budding photographer. Junior Erin Edgerton spends her time outside of school behind the camera trying out different photography techniques. Anything from Edgerton’s sister, Sarah, to the family’s beloved dogs has been put in front of the camera.

It all started with a Barbie Polaroid camera from her parents when she was just a little girl, and she’s been behind the camera ever since. “I can’t really remember not being interested in taking photographs,” said Edgerton.

While most girls her age are dying to be in front of the camera, Edgerton wants to be the one taking the photograph. Edgerton prefers to use the famous Canon brand, but she can take a beautiful photo with any camera. In recent months, Edgerton has been spending her spare time interning with local photographer Ali Johnson. While Edgerton doesn’t do much but carry Johnson’s equipment, she gets to learn the ins and outs of a photograph. “She’s been giving me lots of tips on taking the perfect photograph,” said Edgerton.

Edgerton keeps herself busy inside and out of school: she’s the president of the junior class, she dances with Brushwood’s School of Dance, and is involved with the theater department. Even with being involved with all of these activities, she favors being behind the camera.

Edgerton said she doesn’t have any favorite shots, but she can take a picture of any ordinary object and turn into something extraordinary. “Everything becomes the coolest if it is photographed in a new perspective that is unexpected,” said Edgerton.

No matter what career path Edgerton goes into, she plans to always have a camera. She doesn’t picture herself not behind a camera somewhere. “I want to work photography into whatever career I end up with. I cannot imagine not taking photographs,” said Edgerton.
