Teacher of the Month: Jason Barnett

Most FCHS students know or have heard the name Barnett, or “Coach Barnett.” But who is he really? For a start, he’s the September Teacher of the Month. He’s also a math teacher who is looked up to by many — and not just because he’s tall. Many students love his teaching methods. He’s the teacher of Algebra I, Algebra I Honors, and Probability and Statistics. He isn’t always a math teacher; though, he also has fun on his days off. “I enjoy playing golf, T25’ing [a workout video], watching Kansas Jayhawks basketball and giving Coach Bralley a hard time,” said Barnett.

Before Barnett came to FCHS (and started giving Coach Bralley a hard time), he taught at Western Albemarle High School for seven years. He’s been at FCHS for eight years. Surprisingly, Barnett also has an exciting history. “I was cast to be on Big Brother (Season 3) but I was just hired to be a teacher at WAHS and if I went on the show I would not have had a job after the show. So I decided to not go on,” said Barnett.  With a family of three kids — Claire, Allyson, and Asher — and a wife, Elizabeth, many people would say he made the best decision.
